NovaBACKUP Q3 2025 Release: Security and Convenience

Written by Nathan.Fouarge | Aug 5, 2025 4:50:26 PM

This quarter's release is all about giving you more control and stronger security when managing your backups. Whether you're a managed service provider (MSP) serving regulated industries or an in-house IT professional responsible for daily backups, these updates are designed to simplify your work and make your backups (and, consequently, your restores) more reliable.

This blog post breaks down what’s new in Q3 2025. For a full technical deep dive, check out our:

Two-Factor Authentication for NovaBACKUP Managed Backup

Access control is the foundation of security, and we’re making it even stronger.

What’s new:

You can now enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) across all user accounts in NovaBACKUP’s Central Management. It works with any standard authenticator app and is fully integrated for a smooth setup experience.

Why it matters:

Backup systems are prime targets for cybercriminals. A compromised admin account can grant access to all client backups and sensitive information. However, with 2FA, even if a password is stolen or guessed, an attacker still can't access the system without completing the second authentication step.

Use cases:

  • You manage a team of technicians who have access to multiple client environments. Enabling 2FA ensures that if one user’s credentials are compromised, your entire operation won't be exposed.
  • Your MSP serves clients in the healthcare or financial services industries. 2FA helps support HIPAA, GDPR, and other compliance requirements around access controls.
  • You use a shared login, which is not recommended, but it happens. Enabling 2FA adds a layer of protection while you work on improving your role-based access.

Here is how you enable 2FA

Technology Partnership with Impossible Cloud

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Impossible Cloud.

What’s new:

We’ve partnered with Impossible Cloud to offer NovaBACKUP Managed Backup users a fully integrated cloud storage option hosted in Germany (or other regions in Europe, if needed).

Why it matters:

This gives you and your clients a data sovereignty-friendly cloud option that’s compliant with strict privacy laws, like GDPR, without sacrificing performance or compatibility. You get all the benefits of S3-compatible storage, but with hosting locations that better align with regional compliance needs.

Use cases:

  • You support clients in Germany, the EU, and across regulated industries with strict data storage requirements. NovaBACKUP combined with Impossible Cloud offers a comprehensive solution.
  • You want a multi-cloud or vendor-diverse backup strategy. Add Impossible Cloud as a second cloud destination to ensure redundancy.
  • You’re looking to avoid U.S.-based hyperscalers for legal or business reasons. This gives you a secure and competitive alternative.

Start Backup Jobs Immediately

This has probably been one of our most requested features this year. And it’s finally here.

What’s new:

You can now start any backup job on demand, so there's no need to wait for the next scheduled time. This can be done directly from the Central Management.

Why it matters:

This feature provides more flexibility for troubleshooting, verifying new job setups, and quickly responding to client requests. Whether you're deploying a new endpoint or need to grab a backup quickly before making a risky change, this feature puts you in control.

Use cases:

  • You just created a new backup job for a client and want to confirm that it works without waiting until midnight when your regularly scheduled backup-job starts.
  • A client is about to install a critical update and asks you to back up their data first. You can start the job immediately to ensure they’re protected.
  • You’re performing maintenance and want to back up a server before making changes. This lets you do so in real time.

This small-but-mighty feature can save hours of waiting and reduce human error when trying to validate or protect systems quickly.

Under-the-Hood Improvements

In addition to the big new features, we’ve rolled out several enhancements designed to streamline your backup and restore experience:

  • Updates for Windows Server 2025: We’ve updated NovaBACKUP to account for changes in Microsoft's Windows Server release, including adjustments to the user access control.
  • Restore View Update: We’ve improved the restore experience by displaying only backup versions that are available within your retention policy. This prevents restore attempts from failing due to access to expired or deleted backup sets.
  • Foundation Work for New Disaster Recovery Feature: We’re working on something big behind the scenes: a new, powerful Disaster Recovery feature. This release includes foundational improvements to support the upcoming update, so you'll be ready for faster, more flexible recovery when it's released.
